First of all it not about race it's about social standards if your poor you get treated like shit period....it now race it is discrimination of how much money your family has. I am a white guy if I wore a suit everyone would ask if had court that is just how shit is. It is the big money or your worthless to the elite even though it is the poor that do the jobs that keep this country being able to operate. Non of these rich people would servive one week being poor in a poor neighborhood. But any poor person could thrive with what rich people spend in a week

We need a serious reform as we as adult heal from limiting beliefs and opinions that caused trauma and pain. That we learn coping skills to teach to our kids. That we are just as concerned with building our children's self worth and self esteem. That we are teaching new ways and techniques and we are fostering the mental and emotional needs and wellbeing of our kids. It must be integrated in and a high level of honesty and patience.

So she didn't answer the answer to the question, what do school boards do? After some deep dives into this question, I have concluded that they have no real purpose in the school system and primarily account for so much administrative bloat to the education budget.

I know we have school choice and I still support it. However, my opinion is that just because a child lives around poverty, that shouldn't subject the children to not receiving the proper and necessary resources for education achievement. They should have updated books and programs, good teacher standards and school equipment, school guidance counselors etc. Don't leave them behind. I still remember our elementary school guidance counselor. She made sure she made an appointment to speak with every single child in the school. I'm not a big fan of using school test scores as an indicator of achievement because school testing and perhaps at certain grade levels can be a lot of pressure. When I personally test my daughter, she rush through her answers not taking the time to think through her answers (ie critical thinking). I consider school testing a measuring tool. You need it to understand what areas the students are lacking so we know where to improve to meet standard. Also, how are we stimulating them to go beyond their imagination and to new levels?

Did she say graduate with the skills needed? B.S. No child left behind means that they let kids pass on to the next grade and graduate high school despite the fact that they are failing and should redo each school year. My son got nothing but D's and F's despite my efforts to get him to study. And he still graduated. But because of this he wasn't able to earn the credits needed for college. And so was unable to get the chance to further his education unless he pays for everything himself. Not something he can do.

The most important qualification is dedication to the idea that members of all public boards, commissions, etc. work for and are answerable to the parents and taxpayers of their community. The schools are NOT the board's to do with what they will.

You’re going to need to update your video. Since you’re now also a strong voice for silencing rape victims and their families by labeling them terrorists. I used to be a big supporter of you guys and our state teachers unions because I thought you cared about our kids. Im sorry to say that, after the last 3 1/2 years, that confidence is gone. When parents start showing up to school board meetings by the hundreds, when teachers are pushed to the point that they feel they need to go above their bosses head and appeal to you, don’t you think that maybe - just maybe - you’ve crossed a big redline? But rather than listen and change course, you’ve silenced the opposition. I’d say that’s a pretty good indicator that you’ve lost your way.

I can say that all the Schools I have been to in throughout the four corners in the US have been useless for my classmates and I. In conclusion they have done a poor job at helping.

We I thought the NSBA was for the Common Core. We are the promoters of the Radius Ruler and want to get this new teaching/learning tool in every school. We will reevaluate our direction to do this after watching this. We still have the Radius Ruler on line and on facebook for all schools build their own Radius Ruler for FREE. Use it as a project in the 4th or 5th grade to introduce the concept of radii. Show the students they can measure that ball or line they are drawing.

We want ot be part of history so we made Free access to The Radius Ruler on facebook and the web. There is a how to and more information on the site. This is a new teaching/learning tool for math is a very long time. So please go and copy, paste, print and build your own Radius Ruler.

I'm unaware of Nancy Hank's speech of a year ago but nevertheless, this message bears repeating how ever many times as necessary to get the powers that be to listen and take appropriate action. It needs to be replayed by countless advocates until this country faces reality with it's problems and inadequacies in public education!
